Beautiful song and singing by Frida from her solo album Frida Ensam, produced by Benny (1975). Frida ensam was recorded in KMH Studio and mixed at Metronome Studio, Stockholm. Benny Andersson plays all the pianos and keyboards, while the rest of the musicians are very much the same team who played on ABBA’s records. First recordings and preparations started in 1974 but, due to the rising popularity of ABBA, the album took over 18 months to complete and was recorded between sessions and promotion for the ABBA albums Waterloo and ABBA. The hand-painted sleeve was deemed by one journalist to be “so sensual, it could make the Leaning Tower of Pisa stand to attention.” The album topped the chart for 3 weeks in Sweden Feb – Mar 1976, she replaced ABBA – Greatest hits which had topped the chart for 4 weeks. Send in the clowns – the original English version is a song by Stephen Sondheim from the 1973 musical A Little Night Music, an adaptation of Ingmar Bergman’s film Smiles of a Summer Night. It is a ballad from Act II in which the character Desirée reflects on the ironies and disappointments of her life. Among other things, she looks back on an affair years earlier with the lawyer Fredrik. Meeting him after so long, she finds that he is now in an unconsummated marriage with a much younger woman. Desirée proposes marriage to rescue him from this situation, but he declines, citing his dedication to his bride. Reacting to his rejection, Desirée sings this song. The song is later …

This the last official recording by the group in their own language and was released as the B-side of the Swedish “Waterloo” single. In its English format, “Honey, Honey” was released with “King Kong Song” as the B-side. “Honey, Honey” was released in several European countries, the United States, Australia and New Zealand, but not in the UK. ABBA’s British record label, Epic Records, decided to release a remixed version of “Ring Ring”, but this single only reached No.32, so instead, a cover version of “Honey, Honey” was recorded by the act Sweet Dreams, promptly hitting the UK Top 10. “Honey, Honey” spent four months in the top five in West Germany, and also reached the top five in Austria and Switzerland. In the United States, “Honey, Honey” was moderately successful compared to the group’s later singles. When learning a piece of music it’s easy to get carried away in wanting to hear the finished product even if you’re only halfway through the work and can’t play it properly yet. This leads to excitement where you rush ahead and invariably feel tied down in keeping to time and playing the piece slowly. This leads to excitement where you rush ahead and invariably feel tied down in keeping to time and playing the piece slowly.

The problem with this attitude is that is sows the seeds of bad habits, notably an inability to keep to time. When you play along with your teacher, friends, family or to a CD/tape, the risk is always that you run ahead of the music you play to. This creates chaos and ensures everything sounds off-kilter. In these cases, what needs to be exercised are CDSC – Concentration, Discipline and Self Control.
Now if you’re put off by these last four words, don’t be! These are great qualities which can be integrated into your learning to help

An attempt at the solo from the ‘Raven’ section of Genesis’ ‘The Colony Of Slippermen’. I learnt this very shortly before the performance you see here, so its not exceptionally clean and there may be one or two bum notes, but, it is at least a passable version. However, this is not claiming one hundred percent accuracy, especially with some of the left hand parts. The backing drum track was made manually, so isn’t very exciting, though its purpose is more to act as a simple metronome rather than emulate Collins’ possessed style of playing during this period of Genesis. It falls slightly out of synch progressively, but I guess this is to be expected with a camera which is designed to take pictures first and movies second. As for the ending it looks as if I’m about to headbutt the keyboard because I was relieved to save a passable version after nearly dropping the solo at points.
