Because it’s killing me and I hate having to do it.
I’m not entirely unable to keep time; I play drums too and I use a metronome when I practice on those. That’s no problem, but playing guitar with a metronome is making me want to set it on fire and ditch guitar forever.

I also used to hate it, but, after a lot of suffering I noted it made me much more secure about rhythm…anyway you can also practise without it, but then you have to be really talented…maybe u are…

I’ve accumulated a lot of guitar effects that I don’t usually use on the guitar. So I’ve got some of the more interesting ones hooked up to a cheapo mixer, lots of feedback.

Sometime soon I want to pick up a similarly lo-tech sound source for the things – something a little more interesting than the metronome that’s hooked up here ;-)

I just found out Chris Carter’s done something very similar (though maybe better planned ;-)

A lot of it is about really feeling the beat first. Close your eyes and listen. Then pretend it’s like an awesome drummer or something keeping a beat, and move along with it, feel it like you would when you are dancing, then start “jamming” with it to get a feel for it. Good luck!
