All-star lineup kicks off Burlington Discover Jazz Festival
There’s nothing tentative about the start to this year’s Burlington Discover Jazz Festival. Not when you come out of the gate with an all-star tribute to one of the defining albums of jazz history — Miles Davis’ “Bitches Brew” — followed the next night by a concert by Grammy-winning innovator Herbie Hancock.

The concert series presented on the midway lawn at the Champlain Valley Exposition by Higher Ground began its second season Memorial Day weekend with shows by Ray LaMontagne and Willie Nelson. It continues at 8 p.m. Friday with the hot-as-hotcakes neo-bluegrass group The Avett Brothers.

Bristol Borough Education Fund awards grants totaling ,500 to three borough teachers
BRISTOL BOROUGH – The Bristol Borough Education Fund (BBEF) has awarded a grants totaling $ 4,500 to three teachers in the Bristol Borough School District. Awards were based on funding applications for projects submitted by teachers. Unless specified otherwise, projects are for the 2011–12 academic year.

Tactile Metronome Persistence of Vision

The Tactile Metronome uses multiplexed display circuitry to use three seven-segment digits with only 10 IO pins. It accomplishes this feat by turning the digits on and off rapidly, showing one at a time, but doing it so fast the human eye sees solid digits lit up. To take this picture, I shook the metronome in front of my camera. During the short time the shutter was open, 12 digits were displayed. Pretty cool stuff.
